The Republic Hydrometeorological Service has issued a warning for Serbia regarding the formation and increase of snow cover, heavy rainfall, and strong wind gusts. An orange warning has been issued for the southeastern and southwestern regions of Serbia.
Today, November 22, in the regions of Nišava, Rasina, Toplica, Pirot, Jablanica, and Pčinja administrative districts, snow cover is expected to increase by up to 5 cm within six hours, along with wind gusts reaching up to 85 km/h in areas above 1,000 meters of altitude. Additionally, in the Zlatibor, Moravica, and Raška districts, rainfall exceeding 40 l/m² is forecast over 24 hours, with snow cover increasing by 10 cm within 12 hours and wind gusts reaching 85 km/h in areas above 1,000 meters of altitude.
Given the forecast, which indicates hazardous weather phenomena such as snowfall with increasing snow cover, heavy rainfall, and strong winds, several problems are expected. These include disruptions in traffic and communication, issues with electricity supply, risks of wet snow accumulation and freezing on power transmission systems, electric railways, cable cars, TV towers, and other antenna structures. Additional dangers include breaking tree branches, snow loads on building roofs and other structures, and the potential for flooding due to heavy rainfall. Floods may cause damages such as disruptions to agricultural activities, traffic issues, landslides, and rockfalls, posing risks to human and animal lives and potential property damage.
We urge citizens to be aware of the adverse weather conditions. In such situations, it is essential to remain calm and follow the instructions of the relevant authorities.
